Worth 1000 Photoshop Phobia Contest
June 28th 2006 04:55
Worth 1000 is an interactive image hosting site, with a special focus on photoshop work.
Check out this contest that was hosted by Worth 1000. The premise was that you had to create a photo shopped image that represents a common phobia. Extra points were awarded for skill, creativity and clever juxtapositions. The objects were often every day items, that instilled fear in some way. Some of my favourites were goulish representations of food. Archives can be found at isplay=photoshop" target="_blank">Worth 1000.
‘Whiskeyphobia’
"The fear of that burning sensation in your throat, and that you're not manly enough to pretend it's not there. Sufferers of this phobia usually die choking deaths..."
I have a sneaking suspicion that the creator of this image made this one up. There is, however, a fear known as ‘hydrophobia’ which is the fear of water. I have no idea how you could live any kind of functional life with that kind of disorder.
“I have a real friend named Soozie, who has a real phobia about bananas, snakes, hotdogs, garden hoses, etc. She won't take the first bite from a banana or frankfurter - always asks someone else to do it. (I know, I know; she needs serious therapy!) This one's for you, Sooz.”
Look I’m no psychotherapist, but I think anyone who has heard of Freudian psychology can easily diagnose this one. This poor girl obviously has a very serious case of phallus anxiety.
This is a similar one that wasn’t part of the competition but I think it’s pretty cool anyhow.
This one is extremely creepy…I wonder if it depicts a fear of snakes or a fear of pancakes…or both?
It sounds funny, but there is a real phobia known as Arachibutyrophobia. This is a fear of having peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth, and causes a number of people to suffer panic attacks and unnecessary stress and anxiety. There are even books, websites and health professionals who treat this problem through drugs and therapy. Change That’s Right Now has an information page with a guide for suffers of Arachibutyrophobia.
It is believed that the use of low-resolution images in this context
• to illustrate the competition in question,
• with the competition host name either visible on the image itself or written in the image description above,
on the www.foodherald.com hosted on a server in Australia by www.orble.com , qualifies as fair use under Australian copyright law.
