After having heard quite a bit about Wagamama, I decided to visit the franchise in the city near Circular Quay. It certainly looks quite impressive, occupying prime city real estate with a unified interior. Had it been more busy, though I may not have felt super comfortable with the seating arrangements, which were shared along long benches and tables.

I ordered a king prawn laksa, and I warn you, I was not impressed. If I’m paying almost $20 for a king prawn laksa I expect for it to have goddamn king prawns in it. Instead I was fobbed off with a pile of noodle garnished with three, I repeat, THREE pathetically small prawns. (And where was the liquid? Oh wait- there’s some coconut milk in the bottom of the bowl). I was disappointed to say the least.
The menu had quite a wide selection which you can also check out online.
With sticky date pudding, chocolate mudcake and lime cheesecake, the desserts were not very Japanese. However, we chose one of the most exotic sounding things which was a scoop of green tea and black bean ice cream. This I can recommend as it was delicious.
But overall, the impression was underwhelming. If you want some crappy, semi-Japanese food at inflated prices, visit a Wagamama near you.
