High Tea at Vaucluse House
August 24th 2006 04:30
Vaucluse House is a nineteenth century harbour side estate located in the affluent suburb of Vaucluse. The house is open to the public and decorated with furniture and items that reanimate its past. You can still see the servant’s quarters, kitchen, herb garden and animal pens, complete with ducks, chicken and pigs.
This is a lovely location to stroll around the garden and brunch at the Vaucluse House Tearooms. They serve a selection of snacks, proper lunches and High Tea. I thought this most appropriate for a warm Sunday afternoon and ordered a High Tea, which is $30 and is intended for two people to share.

We selected a special blend of tea called ‘love’ which contained rose petals and had a lovely fragrant aroma. High Tea is made up of assorted fineries including chocolate mudcake, Turkish delight, tuna sandwiches and mini quiche. All of which are very tasty although a little bit sickening by the time you finish up.
The Vaucluse House Tearooms are fully licensed and open 10am-5pm Tuesday to Sunday. There is also a function room to cater for large groups.
The Historic Houses Trust are an excellent organisation who also run several great events at their other premises. This Sunday (the 27th August) there will be the Fifties Fair at the Rose Seidler House in Turramurra. This modernist architectural treasure will be open for public inspection and the grounds will hold many a 50s or 50s inspired marvel for the collector. There will also be food, drinks, music and swing dancing. Entry is $12 or $6 for concession card holders. http://www.hht.net.au/whats_on/events/fifties_fair_program
