Tony Roma's - Ribs, Seafood & Steaks
July 10th 2008 00:05
When I'm up for some juicy, succulent ribs, Tony Roma's is normally the first restaurant that comes to mind. This American family restaurant chain is world famous for its ribs and has restaurants around the world - from cities such as Hong Kong and Shanghai to Berlin and even our own harbour city, Sydney.
The first Tony Roma's opened in Miami back in the early 70s and for the past 30-odd years, diners around the world have enjoyed their award-winning house specialty, the Original Baby Back Ribs - the 'filet mignon' of ribs as they like to call it. They are cut from the choicest tenderloin and basted with Tony's original barbecue sauce. The meat is so tender it practically falls off the bone!
For starters, I strongly recommend the Onion Loaf, baked potato skins with plenty of Cheddar cheese, bacon and sour cream and/or the Appetiser Sampler which includes the potato skins as well as Fire Wings and Mozzarella Sticks.
As for ribs, If you're there for the first time, it would be criminal to pick anything other than the Original Baby Backs. The St. Louis-Style Ribs - marinated with your choice from three marinades - is another one of my favourites and despite being thicker than the Baby Backs, they're no less juicy or succulent.
The extensive menu also features a variety of other signature rib products as well as flame-grilled specialties such as steaks, barbecued chicken and seafood which are all worth a try, but don't forget that you're there primarily for the ribs.
