The Local Wine Bar & Restaurant Paddington

The Local has a very trendy atmosphere with a clean and sophistocated interior. It’s the sort of place where you can get gussied up and spend a leisurely night in good company. There was also a pleasant outdoor courtyard, though the light seemed to fluctuate every now and then.

However, for me the night contained a mixture of good and bad points. The menu was extremely limited, with a choice of only five mains, one of which is vegetarian. The service was a quite slow, and we waited a long time for our meal.
Admittedly, when it did arrive both meals were mouth wateringly delicious, gorgeously presented, but a little on the small side. Like all fancy restaurants. It allows you to savour the flavour and appreciate its delicacy, without being too full to enjoy dessert. Unfortuantely at places like this, we can’t afford dessert.
The salmon was so well cooked it simply melted in the mouth and was covered in a layer of crispy, salty skin. The mash was very creamy and fragrant, set off by capers and blood orange. The steak was cooked to the correct specifications (for a change) but what was even better were the sauteed mushrooms slathered on top. The salad was okay, but very plain and leafy. Bread and olive oil were also provided.
The night was very pleasant, but unfortunately The Local is probably not the sort of place that I would to return to again and again. Certainly there are some minor points which may improved upon over time and it may be worth a second chance somewhere down the track.
