The Good Food Festival
November 5th 2006 02:28
Despite the frisky wind and the terrible allergies it provoked, my constantly running, itchy nose didn’t prevent me from smelling all the tantalising aromas wafting about.
There were representatives from Sydney’s top restaurants at the SMH Food Festival with samples of their work available at decent, standardised prices. Mains were usually $10, desserts were $7.50 and coffees, drinks and other miscellaneous items were $2.50. Some of the portions were quite small of course, and a lobster thing I saw seemed miniscule. Dishes included all sorts of fancy ingredients like rabbit, quail and lobster. The olives and marinated BBQed baby octopi also looked and smelt fantastic.
I eventually chose a salad which was so delicious and looked fantastic, as you can see from the picture. It was something along the lines of raw salmon, baby tomatoes, asparagus (you should know how much I love asparagus by now), egg, olives, roasted potato and some leafy bits. Candice got a coffee and a tiny friend (I mean friand). She said the coffee was burnt, but didn’t care.
We got also some sumptuous Turkish delight for free, Yay!
There was also an extreme number of disgustingly cute dogs walking around. Including a tiny one that looked like a little marshmallow, and a huge black floppy one with a diamante collar with her name on it that made her look a bit like a gangsta rapper.
The stalls did continue to serve food past 2pm but many of them ran out quite quickly and the competition to get the last remaining plate fulls was fierce. The entertainment, sadly, seemed awful. Unless you like hearing drag queens sing badly to pre recorded novelty songs.
