The Fisherman’s Katch Coffs Harbour

This choice was the fruit of almost fifteen minutes strolling up and down the promenade scrutinizing menus, short-listing and culling. So I’ll be damned if we made a bad choice. Fisherman’s Katch is open 7 nights from 6pm and open on weekends from 8am. Their slogan is “Steak, seafood, pasta”.

Inside was quite spacious and featured a lurid pink wall and an attractive purple neon lit fish tank. However we chose to sit outside on the strip which is made comfortable any time by those outdoor heater things. It’s along the road, but also one of the closest restaurants to the waterfront.
As mentioned, the menu had been under careful inspection so we had all picked favourites and ordered promptly. First up were the tapas for two which basically consisted of some bread and yummy dips. They didn’t last that long but it did the job of whetting our appetites.
Candice ordered the coconut king prawns which were big and juicy and came into a crispy batter with golden potatoes. All of the mains were served with a small bowl of salad and a choice of vinaigrette or creamy citrus dressing. Mat, probably seduced by their tender innocence, ordered the baby crab claws, one of the restaurant’s daily specials. When they arrived with that exciting shiny implement he had great fun cracking them open and sucking out the soft white flesh inside. He is pictured here proudly with a pile of carcasses.
I asked for only an entrée sized seafood linguini in a white sauce. This came in a medium sized bowl and was a very tasty fusion of prawns, crab meat, shallots, garlic and chardonnay cream sauce. I was glad I had made the decision to go smaller because this dish was satisfactorily filling without leaving me feeling bloated.
We were all very pleased with our meals and happy with the service. And with all day breakfasts that looked especially enticing we will definitely visit Fisherman’s Katch on the next trip to Coffs.
