Some Thoughts on Juice Bars....
January 30th 2007 10:46
* The juice bar below my old work had the lamest sounding supplements like ‘brain power supplement’ (what the hell is that? Caffine?)
* The trials and tribulations of working in a juice bar: ‘Slimmers- supplement’ contains citrine which is an appetite suppressant. One day when my sister was preparing someone’s drink, she was informed that they were no longer allowed to sell it, by order of the Health Department. (though it was never revealed why)
* Also, people used to frequently ask about the health benefits of the drinks. A man asked what free radicals (‘Combat Zone’ juice gets rid of them) were and my sister had no idea what he was talking about, so she said they were rebellious members of society. Her and other members of staff frequently made up more plausible, yet totally incorrect answers to other customers’ incessant questions.
*What are the benefits of wheatgrass?
Its apparently good for circulation, and healthy heart function. The chlorophyll in the wheatgrass acts as a detoxifier, especially for the liver.
*Why do you take it with orange juice?
It dilutes the taste and also helps you to absorb calcium.
* A friend of mine worked at a juice bar with a very cringe worthy name; ‘quickie’. And I bet you can guess what their slogan is; “fancy a quickie?” *Yikes* I’m embarrassed for their every employee. This was at the point when there were four at Miranda Fair. I favoured the juice station, which sold no frills pre-juiced drinks in little bottles for only a dollar. I think the price has gone up to about $2.50 now though.
* My ex boyfriend worked at a Boost and drank these supposedly healthy drinks all day, as he was getting them for free. Take note that he gained quite a bit of weight during this time. He though a great system would be to sell grass drinks instead of wheatgrass drinks and this would be a great way to smuggle and distribute marijuana. Though this theory was never put to the test, I’m sure it would have had the customers running back for more.
* Pulp was opened in strange circumstances and eventually closed down, leaving the ex owner a millionaire
