Solid Link Between BMI and Fast Food
January 19th 2007 05:04
A recent study conducted by the University of North Carolina recently suggested that there is a link between an increase in BMI (Body Mass Index) and the consumption of fast food. No! Surely not? This controversial study is set to rock the country as fast food outlets can be blamed for morbid obesity and spreading diabetes.
In all seriousness though, this was a long term study conducted over a period of at least 10 years with a sample of several thousand participants and thus a lot of comprehensive data has been produced. Though experts have been claiming the negative effects of fast food for many years, solid evidence such as this study is just beginning to mature.
The good news? According to these researchers, there is no link between dining in restaurants and a rising BMI. In some cases they found that participants who dined frequently actually had slightly lower BMIs. Yay! I’m going out to dinner to celebrate!
