Restaurant Review - Mediterranean Kitchen Parramat

May 30th 2006 12:24
The Mediterranean Kitchen is a great little restaurant in urban Parramatta. It is situated on Church Street, which is fast becoming the trendy café district of the west. There are a lot of great eating options here, but last night I chose the Mediterranean because the menu looked particularly wholesome.

The menu itself was of the plastic laminated variety, with each dish illustrated by a flag indicating it’s nationality. Through this interesting little feature I could tell that the place served specialties from a variety of different countries ranging from Morocco, to Lebanon to Greece. There’s a good selection of items to choose from and the average prices are $20-$30 for a main course.

Inside the place is cosy and warmly lit with comfortable seating. There is a mural on the wall which seems to combine elements of famous Mediterrean paintings, including Boticelli’s Birth of Venus. It was cute, but nothing fancy orpretentious. It was not very busy as it was only a Tuesday night, but I can guess that as it was not that big it would really fill out on a Friday or Saturday night and it would then be advisable to book. There is also outside seating available for the warmer months so you can take in the ambient sounds of dickheads rev-ing up Church Street in their souped up cars.

For an entrée I had mushrooms stuffed with cheese, spinach and sun dried tomatoes. This did not particularly impress me as they were small and few and I know that they are not particularly difficult to make. (Watch out for tomorrow’s post) My main however, was sumptuous. I had stuffed chicken breast on vegetables in a warm creamy sauce. It was delicious, full of flavour and texture. The desserts also sounded tasty but I was absolutely stuffed by the time I had almost finished my chicken and had to leave some. (Which meant I was really full). I left feeling pleased and satisfied.

The service we received was excellent, including a very polite, “did you enjoy your meal?” at the end. That is a sign of courtesy and a useful way for owners to receive honest feedback from their patrons. Courtesy in Parramatta, who would have thought it?
Thumbs up.
