Hurricane's Grill & Bar

Situated in the Harbourside Shopping Centre on Sydney's gorgeous Darling Harbour is Hurricane's Grill & Bar, an alfresco restaurant specialising in premium quality Aussie Beef (short cut sirloin, New York strip, Rump, Prime Rib Eye etc.), succulent Pork & Lamb Ribs and Chicken marinated in their special basting sauces originating from South Africa.

This is the second fully licensed Hurricane's restaurant in the city with the original located just across the road from Australia’s world famous Bondi Beach on Roscoe Street. Both restaurants are extremely busy so don't just rock up and expect to get a table, in fact, it would be wise to make a booking a day or two in advance, especially weekends.

Hurricane's Pork Ribs

I recently went to the Hurricane's in Darling Harbour and it was a pleasant albeit noisy experience. The ribs here were fantastic - just like how it is at Bondi - especially the pork (the lamb ribs can be a bit tough at times) and their tasty own special rib sauce was as good as ever. The ribs were cooked till tender with chips or baked potato with sour cream and chives on the side. Also, a bib is standard issue for any unwanted stains!

I would also recommend the lightly basted chargrilled Aussie lamb cutlets which are succulent and cooked to perfection as well as the tasty Portugese chicken with peri-peri sauce, although this particular dish can be quite hot so beware. Other notable dishes on the menu include burgers, seafood, vegetarian dishes, speciality salads and desserts.

Hurricane's Grill & Bar Restaurant

Next door to the restaurant at Bondi Beach is the Hurricane's Express Take-Away - perfect for those occasions when you prefer to dine on their famous ribs in the comfort of your own home.

So overall, for some of the best ribs in Sydney, it's hard to look past Hurricane's.

Tony Roma's Sydney
Tony Roma's, Sydney

When I'm up for some juicy, succulent ribs, Tony Roma's is normally the first restaurant that comes to mind. This American family restaurant chain is world famous for its ribs and has restaurants around the world - from cities such as Hong Kong and Shanghai to Berlin and even our own harbour city, Sydney

Birdie Num Nums Carlton

Don’t let the quaint appearance fool you, the coffee is pretty bad. It tasted burnt, and my sources tell me that this is not an unusual occurrence. Also the general consensus is that it is a little over priced. Nevertheless the food is reasonably interesting and pretty gourmet as they say.

Hook Island Food Diary

November 20th 2007 09:14
Day one:
We arrive on the beautiful Hook island. The resort is small and secluded on a pretty beach and surrounded by bush. To my delight there is amazing snorkelling right at the doorstep.
There is only one place to eat on the island, and that is the resort’s café. You are not allowed to bring your own food, though I snuck in some olives, dip and muesli bars

Airlie Beach Village Café

We breakfasted here one morning and I’m sorry it wasn’t more. This café is right by the main street but is nestled back just enough to be calm and quiet. Most of the tables were on kind of boardwalk made shady by tropical plants and trees.

Figs North Carlton

I found this café to be very average in many ways. It’s not particularly busy but not the most comfortable place to hang around. The interior lacks character and the tables and chairs are the sort of prostrate affair that serves its purpose with out the frills.
