Feasting on Flesh - The Review

November 10th 2006 00:37
Feasting on Flesh brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “playing with your food”.

www.sydneyoperahouse.com

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to stomach pasta or chocolate cake for quite some time. Do you remember that vulgar rhyme from primary school? The one that goes, “milk, milk, lemonade, round the corner fudge is made.” Well – actually never mind…

Feasting on Flesh is an immersive, multi-disciplinary performance about the erotic nature of food. Or perhaps about the consuming nature of the erotic. Food is blended, beaten, shaken and stirred with fantasy in an unforgettable fusion of flavours.

One of my favourite moments was the musical duo between Triple J legends Gotye and Candy Bowers, half of femme hip hoppers Sista She. They performed an infectious and raucous pots and pans rap that would rival anything by Stomp. Definitely a crowd drawer and pleaser, Gotye delivers a myriad of melodic munchables throughout the entire performance with his voice, drums, piano and a tiny ukulele.

Also expect to see burlesque, spoken word, acrobatics, a diatribe on the nutritional value of semen and plenty of full frontal nudity. A truly gastronomic experience!

Feasting on Flesh explores the relationship between sensuality, humanity and food, in a whimsical and titillating tale. Far from being simply a cheap shocker, the subject is actually one that has fascinated mankind for centuries as ancient cultures have seen resemblances between food and the genitals long before questions of political correctness. Take the ancient Aztecs for example, who named the avocado “testicle fruit” for its round, soft qualities.

Feasting on Flesh promises to have a successful though short season at the Sydney Opera House and tickets can be purchased online or at the box office.

Yes, folks, I’m sure many of you can empathise when I say that its an assessment heavy time of year. Yet while I’m tapping away furiously at the computer or slaving over piles of dusty books sometimes my mid drifts off and I think of food…
Did you know this every day spice could help you achieve immortality? http://www.sxc.hu/photo/192205

While researching Daoism for one of my essays I came across a really interesting recipe, written in an ancient Chinese self cultivation manuscript

Beware of Consuming Excess Guilt

October 18th 2006 11:58
Recently another blogger’s observation alerted me to this terrible problem. These days people have been consuming far to much guilt in their food. No matter what you eat, when you eat, try and avoid any guilt. It can lead to serious health conditions, including introversion, depression, and in very extreme circumstance, death.

“I also discovered that I was intaking a lot of guilt in my food. Snakatas are 8% guilt, for instance, as I discovered today via mathematical induction (kinda

Cow Butter Sculpture Trend

October 11th 2006 05:57
Butter sculpting is a strange phenomenon. Yet even more strange is the compulsion its artisans exhibit to continually create effigies of cows as some sort of symbolic testimony to their origins.

There’s a woman who goes by the name of the ‘butter cow lady’. Norma Lyon earned this title by building life sized sculptures of cows out of dairy butter. This insane woman even created a butter version of Da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’!

The Ultimate Hangover Cure

September 15th 2006 12:36
Sometimes the making of a hangover cure can be a real art. People create all sorts of little myths about why their’s is the most effective, and pass the knowledge on as if it were a holy scripture. There is a general consensus that a decent helping of grease (or a “grease and oil change” as my TAFE teacher would say) can do wonders to settle the stomach that is punishing you for punishing it the night before. Warm favourites include bacon big breakfasts, Macdonald's French fries, oily burgers and extra cheesy pizza. (cold pizza being my hangover cure of choice) So surely a combination of all these potent elements will result in the creation of the ultimate hangover cure…?

Sausage Fans

September 9th 2006 04:29
I love sausages! I’m not trying to say anything rude here, I’m talking about the food you sickoes! Now you may think a food snob like myself may shy away from the humble bangers and mash, but for some reason I just really like sausages. Whether it be the expensive gourmet variety for dinner or a cheap load on a BBQ I find sausages to make a most tasty and satisfying snack.

Bring Back Recipe Cards!

July 25th 2006 07:02
At the cake party a boy told me that when he was child his mother used to give him hand written recipes on pieces of paper and he had to type them up on a type writer and this made him feel very important. At the party there was a ‘Recipe Card Station’ set up, complete with a type writer and coloured cards. At first I found it a little difficult to get the hang of which resulted in very inconsistent typing. This includes some lines running over each other, dyslexic spelling and sentences that mistakenly continued off the edge. Nevertheless it was great fun and everyone had a go.

Worth 1000 is an interactive image hosting site, with a special focus on photoshop work.
Check out this contest that was hosted by Worth 1000. The premise was that you had to create a photo shopped image that represents a common phobia. Extra points were awarded for skill, creativity and clever juxtapositions. The objects were often every day items, that instilled fear in some way. Some of my favourites were goulish representations of food. Archives can be found at isplay=photoshop" target="_blank">Worth 1000.
