Lara MOlive Leaf Juice Craze Ends In Murder

I found this really odd article on olive leaves on the Australian (newspaper) website today. It begins by stating the recent notice of potential health benefits. A short segment on Greek TV apparently suggested that drinking juice made from the leaves could lower cholesterol and had been shown to reduce cancer in experiments with lab mice. And this apparently then caused a lot of opportunists to start selling olive leaf juice as a miracle cure. All very well and good. Then this brief yet enigmatic statement; “the craze has led to one death.” What the? There is no elaboration and this is merely a passing reference.

The courier provided more of an insight, beginning its article with this dramatic statement; “TELEVISION coverage of the purported healing properties of olive tree leaves have sparked a frenzy in Greece and caused one violent death.”

What happened was two brothers got into an argument over whether to give the magical juice to their third brother, who was suffering from cancer. This led to a fight, which ended as one stabbed the other in the eye, murdering him.
Absolutely shocking.
The media implies that this is the result of the hype and misinformation surrounding the juice, referring to it sudden popularity as a ‘frenzy’. Though the incident is so extreme there must have been so many more external factors. Can you blame murder on juice?
Read the articles and see what you make of it for yourself. Its quite difficult to tell from an outside perspective just how intensely Greece took to this juice, but the articles paint a really strange, desperate sort of a picture.
