Murder Parties Not Always To Die For
February 19th 2007 10:16
Being a fun loving, food loving kind of girl the idea of a murder party always appealed to me. Actually, I though it sounded like the greatest thing ever! What could be more fun than decorating your house to a theme, getting your friends to dress up and then playing characters while a sordid tale of murder and mystery unfolds over an extravagant meal?
Well, this was what was running through my head at the time.
The boys wouldn’t participate properly and ended up watching TV while we had to read their clues for them. Some people were too shy to volunteer their clues and we’d miss bits, not realising until later. There is way too much reading, which no one wants to do and the whole thing goes on for much to long.
The cook got drunk in the process and ended up burning a lot of the food, while another girl got a migraine.
So all in all it was a bit of a disaster. Both attempts ended rather badly. The first party had a really disappointing ending to the story (Grapes of Wrath) and the second time several guests actually left of boredom before we could finish.
The only advice I can really offer is firstly to try and pre-prepare as much of the meal as possible, because every time a person leaves the room the game gets put on hold. Secondly, be very careful about the kind of people you invite. Everyone has to contribute and should be prepared to participate properly in the game, it only takes one person who isn’t interested or paying attention to spoil the clues. And finally, don’t let your guests drink too much, or make sure they drink a lot- either way.
