Mundine Vs Green & the Boxa Bar Hurstville
May 22nd 2006 08:07
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to watch the big fight live last week. The stadium was humungous and absolutely buzzing with excited anticipation. This only grew tensely as the lead up matches took place. John Hopoate (‘Hoppa’) was there in his second step trying to reinvent himself as a boxer - and doing a damn good job at it as well I must add! He was a machine and KO-ed his opponent in the first round. I guess he feels he has something to prove after his rather embarrassing ejection from the world of football.
Green came out to 'The Land from Down Under" the crowd went absolutely nuts as the collective excitement reached its apex. I was asked what song I would come out to if I were in his position and I said 'Break Stuff' by Limp Bizkit. It's all about putting on a show after all.
The crowd was definitely swung towards Green and many fans showed up in entirely green outfits and face paint. The odds were on his side too. Also, he has more tattoos so that technically makes him cooler. However, I was barracking for Mundine, partially because I felt sorry for him as everyone
booed and chanted “Mundine's a wanker”, partially because he's from around my local area and felt like I should represent. Third and final reason was due to his awesomely pimpin' outfit in the promotional material for the fight.
And what was the food like at this event? Junk and horribly overpriced of
course. I bought a small container full of soggy chips for almost $5. AND they stopped selling beer before the main match. Probably to reduce the number of scuffles, but still annoying. Anyhow, this brings me to my point and a neat segue back to food.
At Hurstville, around the corner from the train station and the bus
interchange is a little old place called The Boxa Bar, owned by the infamous Anthony Mudine. He has been branching out and this is his first business venture which will provide security for when his boxing days are coming to an end.

They're all about B grade celebrities there as Sarah Marie from
the first season of Big Brother has worked there in the past. She's
actually looking quite good these days, slim and a brunette, with a boob
job. My sister and her friends often drop by for a coffee and cake in the
afternoon after school and she tries to give them girly advice on boys and stuff.
As for the look of the place it’s nothing exciting or out of the ordinary but it’s clean and hospitable. There are also several cabinets filled with boxing memorabilia to remind you who’s boss. They do a good mocha and the menu is pretty standard café fare. The prices are not cheap yet neither particularly expensive and the food is quite decent, modern Australian style stuff. If you're looking for a good feed, the $10 big breakfast deal isn't half bad. They also sell some Mundine merchandise. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area and a fan of boxing.
