Kagaya Japanese Restaurant

This is one my family’s favourite haunts. Arguably the best Japanese restaurant in Hurstville, Kagaya offers plates of wonderful food at very reasonable rates. This attracts a range of clientele including locals, couples and business people from the metropolitan area. It is no wonder that it is usually almost full on any given weeknight and so bookings are recommended.
Kagaya serves a range of Japanese cuisine. Since we have visited it several times I have had the opportunity to sample quite a few of their dishes. The sashimi is highly recommended as it is so soft and succulent – an absolute delicacy. The grilled eel is also very tender and the marinate flavoursome. The egg custard, fish filled with roe and eggplant steak are also definitely worth a try if you are interested in expanding the tastes of your palate.
If you are dining with a partner, the box set specials are especially good value as they allow you to sample several different items from the menu and usually include miso soup, green tea and a dessert as a matter of course. The desserts are limited but exotic. There is a choice of a fried pumpkin cake sprinkled with sugar, fried ice cream or red bean or green tea ice cream.
The green tea ice cream is especially good, tempting even after a large meal and refreshing to settle your stomach and leaving you to feel devilishly satisfied. If you are feeling a little less adventurous there are always generous servings of tempura prawns and teriyaki chicken to fall back on. There is even some very nice sushi, though I normally avoid it since it has become widespread in shopping centres and I have come to regard it as a commonplace snack.
Kagaya is always a winner as far as I’m concerned. Every time we have been there the service has been polite and friendly and the food delicious. And we will definitely be back again sometime soon to test the theory.
