Junk Ads Banned in UK

I never thought it would happen but they’ve finally done it! Junk food advertisements have been banned in the UK!
I have mentioned this in several other posts, always believing that the multinationals were far too powerful for consumer groups’ efforts to take any effect. Nevertheless, last week the UK media authority announced the decision to ban advertisements for foods high in fat, salt and sugar from children’s broadcasting.

It is really commendable how consumer groups have had success against large campaigns fueled by money and the latest psychological research. Though the responsibility is said to lie with the consumer, it is still important that some decisions carry the weight of government or other authorities' regulation.
However many countries, including Australia, are still several steps behind and the move by Britain has only fueled the junk food industry to fight any similar action with renewed vigour.
