Ingersoll, Cranston and van Reyk @ Newtown Festival
November 11th 2006 05:32
Some of Sydney’s most prominent food writers (myself excluded, ahem) will be appearing at the Newtown Festival tomorrow on Sunday the 12th of November. The festival is usually a fantastic day out with a multitude of stalls, free entertainment and a range of food and beverages that will keep you amused until the whole thing shuts down at 6pm. This year features the introduction of the controversial fence, symbolising an ‘of-fence’ against punters who are not used to being subjected to a line and frisk before entering the park.
Nevertheless if you do decide to sacrifice your BYO and pay the exorbitant prices for alcohol on the premises then you should visit the 'Better Read Than Dead' writer’s tent at 2pm.

Jared Ingersoll, owner of Danks Street Depot, and Michelle Cranston, formerly of Bills and now editor of the Marie Clare cookbook series discuss that perennial question, Why is the Sydney Food Scene so much livelier than Melbourne’s? This session, to be accompanied by a cookie tasking, will be chaired by Newtown identity and food writer Paul van Reyk." Other sources indicate Ross Dobson, author of China Town, will also be making an appearance. http://newtowncentre.org/festival/html/writers.html
I’m not so sure if “Why is the Sydney Food Scene so much livelier than Melbourne’s?” IS a perennial question but it sounds like it will make for a lively and controversial discussion. If this doesn't interest you then it's certainly worth it just to show up for the cookie tasting. See you there!
Some of the Panelists:
Jared Ingersoll
Ross Dobson
Paul van Reyk
