Ice and Slice Newtown

I’ve been to Ice and Slice several times now and I have to say it’s definitely one of my favourite pizza places in Newtown.

Having been established on King Street for a while Ice and Slice has developed a good reputation from the masses of passing trade that come to Newtown’s restaurant district looking for somewhere good to eat.
On the last occasion I visited this restaurant we had a very large group so we got the set menu at $26 a head. This was excellent as it saved me the effort of choosing one of the many tantalising toppings and instead having the opportunity to sample several different varieties. I had two slices of the tandoori pizza which was innovative and tasty. It included thin slices of tandoori chicken with dollops of yoghurt on top. I also had a vegetarian slice and something with big fat prawns on it. The pizzas are all thin crusts and very cheesy just the way I like it. None of my favourite topping when I share with others though- anchovies!
The set menu also includes garlic bread, salad and gelato, so you’ll definitely be full for your dime. If you’re feeling the pinch a single gourmet pizza will usually set you back about $15 or so and is usually about the size of a large dinner plate.
The range of gelato is not as extensive as some of the competitors in Newtown but what they do have is so creamy and so flavoursome it slides down your throat like liquid heaven. I chose a scoop of café latte flavoured gelato and one of sugared almonds, but there are also several fruity flavours to choose from. The drinks are also something to be beheld. The ice chocolates and coffees are mammoth with scoops of gelato floating amongst various syrups and there is also a range of similarly decadent alcoholic beverages. Share with a kind friend as these are humungous!
The awesome food is not the only attraction of ice and slice. It’s large, pleasant and clean so it can accommodate big groups like ours was. There’s also a cute little outdoor area lit with fairy lights that you can request for a more intimate option. There are several helpful and more importantly attractive wait staff who will be there to take your order and your stares. The atmosphere on a weekend night is usually busy but friendly.

"The Italian Bowl" on King St is also pretty good, but I imagine you knew that.

Will go back to try some more.
But here's an insider review:
'Asked my friend who works at Ice & Slice about it and suggested that we might go tomorrow. She said "cool, it might be shit" and when I pressed for more info, she said "hygiene is fine, one of the bosses is stingy and the other doesnt cook the pizzas as much as i would like".'

I also know someone who worked there. She only lasted a few weeks though, perhaps this is why!
