Well here’s some good news. Or at least, here’s some sketchy research that may to some extent justify your copious drinking and spending habits.
If you’re a swanky cocktail drinker, you’ll be pleased to know that US and Thai researchers have recently decided that fruity cocktails may be high in healthful anti-oxidants. These findings were published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture.
So apparently by adding ethanol (the alcohol found in spirits) to coloured fruits (particularly strawberries and blackberries) the antioxident content of the fruits. And we all know and love antioxidents, which both promote good health, prevent diseases and slow visible aging.
Sounds too good to be true! No word as yet on the adverse health effects the added alcohol also causes.
The Sydney Morning Herald, who published an article reporting on the findings, added a little note to show the humour in this puff piece; “The study did not address whether adding a little cocktail umbrella enhanced the effects.”
