We decided it was probably a bit sad to be sitting in City Extra alone at 3am. But not nearly as sad as it would be to be sitting alone in McDonald’s or a dodgy kebab shop at the 3 in the morning. This was hypothetical of course, since I was with a friend and it was only 10pm.

Nevertheless I think a 24 café is a good idea. If you are in the area it’s a much better alternative to any other local late night haunts and City Extra is relatively inexpensive for Circular Quay.
Be warned though, they charge a surcharge after hours. I’m happy to pay this, but I do hope they are still paying their staff penalty rates post John Howard’s evil IR reform.
On my most recent visit the late and chocolate brownie really hit the spot, and my friend said she was happy with her fare too. I think the last time I visited was over a year ago, for a 1am post festival sticky date pudding that was great! Plus the menus are delightfully kitch in a lame kind of way, and you could spend hours entertaining yourself reading them if you were hypothetically bored and alone, at 3am in City Extra.

I know just what you mean-I don't know how many times I've sat there, simply because it's open and they serve alright food. Yeppie the prices are inflated, but it's still a great idea.
