Prague Czech Beer Restaurant
October 24th 2007 11:30
A friend of mine had recently returned from the Czech Republic and was experiencing some severe Czech food withdrawal symptoms.
While sending me photos of his trip and all the great food he got to sample while over there via various forms of web messaging, he asked me if I knew any good Czech restaurants in Sydney. Having never had Czech food before (hangs head in shame) there wasn't an awful lot I could do about it so I typed, "Sorry...can't help. Never had Czech food before...".
Silence.
"WTFBBQ? OMG!!!!
So I said find a good place and we'll go and so he did.
Located in Potts Point, the Prague Czech Beer Restaurant is a characteristic Czech restaurant with a nice and welcoming stylish decor spanning over two floors plus an outside dining area.
Service was nice and friendly; and the beer menu mightily impressive! Budweiser Budvar, Pilsner Urquell, BERNARD Unpasteurised beer...you name it, they had it!
The food were quite nice (my friend loved it), the portions were generous and the price, reasonable.
With six people at our table, there was only so much we could sample but we did manage to try everything from soups to mains and of course; copious amounts of beer.
What we ordered:
Potato & Mushrooms Soup
Clear Bouillon with Vegetable and Liver Balls
Cucumber Salad with Sour Cream
TRADITIONAL BOHEMIAN PARTY DISH (STAROPRAŽSKÁ POSVÍCENSKÁ MÍSA) - smoked Pork, roast Pork, golden-brown Duck, Sausage, red Cabbage, Sauerkraut, Potato Pancakes, Bread & Potato Dumplings.
Variety of grilled Meats and Vegetables on Skewers served with French Fries (Beef Eye Fillet, Pork Fillet, Bacon, Chicken Breast and Liver)
Juicy roast Pork Knuckle served with pickled Cucumbers, Horseradish, Mustard and Bread
Roast Pork with Cabbage and Bread Dumplings
All in all, a great first experience of Czech food for me personally and I was particularly fond of the pork knuckle and skewers - yum! If you find yourself in my situation, I sincerely recommend you check out this place and see for yourself what Czech cuisine has to offer.
