January 31st 2007 10:55
Ingredients:
¼ Small Pumpkin
1 Capsicum
½ a Sweet Potato
1/2 an Eggplant
8 Garlic Cloves
1 Can of Cooked Chickpeas
9 Leaves of Basil
3 Sprigs of Thyme
2 Sprigs of Rosemary
1 Lemon
Olive Oil
½ Bunch of Rocket
1 Bunch of Nasturtium Leaves & Flowers
Balsamic Vinegar
Salt
Pepper

Method:

Preheat your oven at 200 degrees Celsius. Slice pumpkin, capsicum, sweet potato and eggplant into similar sized pieces. Place with garlic cloves (still encased in the papery skin) into a large baking dish. Toss with chopped basil, thyme and rosemary, the juice of one lemon, oil and salt and pepper. Place in the oven and bake until tender- test the texture with a fork or skewer. Whilst still warm combine the roasted vegetables with the chickpeas and place on a bed of rocket. Scatter nasturtium flowers and leaves to the top for garnish and drizzle with a little balsamic vinegar. Serve warm.

Some Thoughts on Juice Bars....

January 30th 2007 10:46
* The juice bar below my old work had the lamest sounding supplements like ‘brain power supplement’ (what the hell is that? Caffine?)

* The trials and tribulations of working in a juice bar: ‘Slimmers- supplement’ contains citrine which is an appetite suppressant. One day when my sister was preparing someone’s drink, she was informed that they were no longer allowed to sell it, by order of the Health Department. (though it was never revealed why

Hudsons of Dickson Canberra

January 24th 2007 10:39
Hudsons of Dickson is located in the courtyard area of a little shopping village in Dickson, near the humourously named bakery, Dickson Cakes. We dined outside under leafy trees which was nice since later in the day it actually reached a sweltering 40 degrees Celsius. The inside also looked cute and cozy for the colder months.

Yum Yum Tree Cocktail

January 23rd 2007 10:59
For my sister’s 18th she decided to have a cocktail party. The girls all arrived in lovely summer dresses and heels and began by sipping Pina Coladas and Margaritas. A couple of my friends were there to assist and served the drinks from the kitchen through the hutch. Though inevitably, as the night progressed, dresses got ripped, heels became dangerous and the drinks became a little more experimental. That is when Candice hit upon this concoction which she has coined ‘The Yum Yum Tree’.

Colourful Carrots

January 20th 2007 05:17
Who would have thought that carrots would inspire so much random trivia amongst people? Yes, that humble healthful snack, famously gnawed on by Bugs Bunny, adored by people the world over…Introducing- the Carrot!!!

With their slogan “discover the power of carrots”, the Carrot Museum are definitely ahead of the pack. They have a whole page of their website dedicated to ‘101 things you never knew about carrots’. I personally haven’t assessed this to make sure that there really are 101 things, nor whether I knew them or not, but it certainly still a very impressive and ambitious effort

Solid Link Between BMI and Fast Food

January 19th 2007 05:04
A recent study conducted by the University of North Carolina recently suggested that there is a link between an increase in BMI (Body Mass Index) and the consumption of fast food. No! Surely not? This controversial study is set to rock the country as fast food outlets can be blamed for morbid obesity and spreading diabetes.

Floyd on Fish

January 15th 2007 11:06
Keith Floyd is seriously weird. Not in the usual, trying to be zany TV personality kind of weird, just that kind of subtle weirdness that gets you off guard when you start to watch someone. Possibly attributed to the fact that he always seems kind of pissed, flushed in the cheeks as he finds yet another excuse for yet more wine.

Aside from that he’s a delightfully English chap preparing jolly good meals with old world charm. As he profiles chefs and fishermen, and eventually creates his own dishes, Floyd keeps up a constant stream of inane banter. Such as, I don’t believe you should ever garnish a meal with tomato or cucumber just for the sake of it- this is highly deceptive- garnish should only be used to highlight the ingredients used within the dish

Dine at the Famous Speigeltent

January 12th 2007 05:47
As part of the Sydney Festival the Famous Speigeltent has hit the streets of Sydney! The tent was intricately crafted in Belgium in the 20s and has since housed a variety of performers over a range of eras. Meaning ‘tent of mirrors’, the mirror lined walls of the Speigeltent have reflected events both sordid and spectacular. For the duration of the Festival the Famous Speigeltent can be found in the Northern half of Hyde Park.

Do you know what dragons eat?

January 8th 2007 11:38
According to the Powerhouse Museum’s resident dragonologist from Erth, Chinese water dragons are minerovours- meaning that they feed on minerals. These include antique Chinese vases and ground up pieces of the Great Wall of China.

Marmalade Tea Cakes

January 7th 2007 09:18
There is also a variation for chocolate filled tea cakes, which are just as good. Or like me you can make half and half so people can choose or try both. You can also experiment by trying different kinds of fruit preserve or jam.

Clones are yummy, they say

January 6th 2007 06:12
The Food and Drug Administration, a US national body has recently released a report stating that their research shows products from cloned animals are fit for human consumption. They stated that they found no adverse health implications resulted from the consumption of meat and animal products from cloned animals.

Do we really trust any research done by the US government

Food Creatures

January 5th 2007 05:36
I was in an internet café in a village in Northern Thailand when I saw some of these amazing images. Each computer had a desktop image similar to those feature here. I think it very clever the way the artists have so effectively blended the aesthetic qualities of food with those of animals. These images were all produced by users on Worth 1000 as part of the regualr photoshop competitions held there.

French Women Don’t Get Fat

January 4th 2007 00:07
Mireille Guiliano’s sensational book took the world by storm, with a million copies printed within the first six months of release. There are now several spin offs and imitations as testimony to its success. The follow up book is called French Women For All Seasons.

I have to admit that when I first picked up French Women Don’t Get Fat I was a little sceptical. I didn’t believe the hype and I am always suspicious of fad diets. However, as I began to read I was pleasantly surprised. I believe that the most appealing thing about the book is the personal and honest style it is written in. Mireille Guiliano speaks directly to so many women, using anecdotes from her past and knowledge and experience from her present to show not only weight loss tips but an insight into the emotional way our food and weight can affect us. And all this is written in a relaxed and entertaining narrative style. There are also other practical bits and pieces including healthy recipes and sound nutritional information
